Katy Perry leaving American Idol

Katy Perry announced she’s leaving American Idol on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Jimmy asked if she had a succession plan for her spot as a judge, to which she said it’s her “farewell season”.

She later told the host, “Let’s just say I’m creating space for my new wingspan. I love them so much. They figure I’ve been in the studio for a while. So they figure something is different.”

“They will miss you on that show, I’m sure,” Jimmy said. She noted how it is their seventh season and how former judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson had seven seasons.

Judge plans to ‘go see the world’

Katy revealed she “loves the show so much” but now has plans to “go see the world” and “maybe bring new music”. However, it may not be forever, as she added, “Maybe I’ll come back if they’ll have me.”

“I love ‘Idol’ so much, it’s connected me with the heart of America. But I feel like I need to go out to feel that pulse of my own beat,” she added. And fans are overjoyed with the news she may make new music.

It’s going to be a busy year for the singer, as she’s headlining the festival Rock In Rio Brazil in September and has just announced a new WW tour. One said they “need the lead single ASAP” for her new album.

Inside Katy Perry’s $25M salary

Katy was paid $25 million for her American Idol salary, which made her the highest paid. Perry has been there since season 16 and producers reportedly had to make a big push to bring her back as a judge.

Per season, the singer was paid more than both Lionel Ritchie and Luke Bryan’s combined salary as part of a history-making deal. It makes sense though, as Katy is worth a whopping $340 million, per Forbes.

Her net worth is based on her income from touring, recording and her role as an American Idol judge, which makes her one of the richest self-made women in America.
